New Year’s Eve in Prague

Are you already planning a New Year’s party? I often leave it at the last minute, and I’m not always happy with the outcome 😉

If you are considering Prague, I warmly encourage you to come over. The city is beautifully lit, Christmas markets will still be there, mulled wine, punch or hot apple juice are available in almost every square 😊

Public open party, free of charge, is planned as usual at the Old Town Square. From 17.00 hrs till midnight there will be concerts, competitions and different sorts of games. The surrounding restaurants and bars are inviting – but it’s better to check the program in advance, some of them will be open to unannounced guests, but many of them require reservations.

Of course, there are many other possibilities for organized fun. You can go to festive dinners (Czech and world cuisine), concerts, theatre performances and plays, balls, themed parties (e.g. in a brewery, in a horror bar), parties on a boat, in iconic discos and bars … There is multitude of options but you need remember to book your spot early enough!

On New Year’s Day, at 15.00 hrs, a traditional New Year’s concert will take place on the same Old Town Square. Several choirs will perform their program of classical and historical music. Then at 18.00 hrs there will be a fireworks show that will be fired from around the Bastion restaurant in the Nusle district (see the map below). The best spot to observe it would be from the walls surrounding Visegrad or in front of the Congress Center (underground C line, VyÅ¡ehrad station). This year’s show is dedicated to Karel Gott who has passed away recently, so during the celebration we will hear melodies of his songs. The show will last about 12 minutes.

Come over! 🙂
